Nikkor 50mm f:1,8 AF-D

It is an economic focal fixed lens with a quality, IMHO, excellent, since it has some very good and simple construction standars, let’s see, metallic mount, 6 optical elements, what is few, mainly if we compare with the current zoom from 13 to 16 optical elements, multilayers front elements, etc.

It is able to focus until a minimum 0,45 meters and has a 7 petals diaphragm and can closes until f22 to obtain a more than enough depth of field. The autofocus is conventional, screw and camera commanded, it is fast enough in the D70 and D200 where it has been tested. Although has a very simple construction, the focus is very precise and its sharpness does not have anything to envy of Nikon lens much more priced.

The quality of the images is really good. You can shoot f 1.8 without excessive quality loses. Beyond f: 2.8 the images have a brilliant aspect, but it is in f 8 and f 11 where the quality of the images is impressive. The bokeh is probably better than a 400mm f/2.8 AF-S, which overcomes the 8.000 Euros. You can see what is able to make f1.8 here

In a DX format digital camera, this 50mm become a 75mm f:1 .8, which transforms into a short telephoto ideal for portraits. In spite of being manufactured in China, it fulfills more than enough what is requested and it will never put in compromise your pictures for ullage of optical quality. For example, photodo.com qualifies this lens like the clearest in Nikon. For the 116 Euros that it costs you will not find anything that not even approached to its image quality.
